Feeling tired doesn’t always mean you need more sleep. Emotional labor, masking, sensory overload, and chronic stress all take energy.
Many people are carrying more than they realize - internally and externally. Feeling exhausted is often a sign that your system has not only been working very hard but also overtime. When you have downtime, are you resting and taking care of your nervous system, or are you keeping yourself stimulated? Trying to "rest" by watching TV or scrolling on the phone, the brain doesn't actually have time to reset. These are distractions, which isn't the same thing as rest.
Sometimes rest looks like connection, structure, or permission to slow down. Rather than pushing through stress or fatigue, it may help to explore what your nervous system needs to feel supported and rested.
Resting isn't a weakness - it’s a necessity.
Subtle things that may take energy:
Making decisions
Paying attention
Planning
Small talk
"Holding it together"
Perfectionism
Holding space for others
Being in public
Being around people, even if you like them
Being around people with big emotions
Being in front of a screen or technology
